Closing the Digital Valuation Gap

Abstract
The paper argues that unmanaged enterprise technical knowledge creates significant "human capital leakage," costing the global economy trillions as employees and AI systems repeatedly search for, validate, or recreate information. To address this, the author proposes three critical management decisions:
- classifying knowledge as a strategic asset
- organizing an information architecture to govern data
- implementing an IA-AI workflow with Human-in-the-Loop review to ensure accuracy
This combined model enables companies to transform technical documentation from disposable overhead into a controlled, reusable resource that supports software releases and operational workflows. The paper highlights the potential for improved operating leverage, projecting that this structured approach can significantly close the "digital valuation gap" between standard and digitally advanced firms. Furthermore, it uses the Snowflake case study to illustrate the risks of failing to properly manage this knowledge, demonstrating that simply automating documentation without human oversight can lead to inefficiency, quality issues, and talent loss.
